USER CONDUCT POLICY
The Reddick Public Library District welcomes all individuals to use resources made available to the community. In order to provide a safe, comfortable experience for everyone in the library, the following forms of conduct are not permitted and are representative of actions that may result in the loss of library privileges:
- Behavior that disturbs or interferes with others’ use of library services and facilities. Examples include (but are not limited to) fighting; throwing; swearing; using abusive or threatening language; exceeding acceptable noise levels; harassing patrons or staff; or attempting to engage them in unwanted discussion. Disruptive or offensive behavior is determined at the discretion of the library staff.
- Possessing alcohol, any illegal substance, or drug paraphernalia; or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Carrying or displaying simulated or real weapons, or any other object that can reasonably be considered a weapon, except by authorized law enforcement officials.
- Using tobacco products on Library property, which includes the building, its entryways, in the parking lot, and on the sidewalks and grounds around the facility, except in the designated area located near the northwest corner of the campus.
- Leaving a vulnerable adult or a child under the age of 10 unattended at any time.
- Impeding access to the Library or any part of the Library property.
- Stealing, destroying, or defacing library or personal property.
- Occupying areas of the library that are age-inappropriate.
- Trespassing in non-public areas.
- Making unauthorized or inappropriate use of library equipment, including the telephone.
- Using library facilities for purposes other than intended - including bathing, sleeping, and inappropriate use of library furniture.
- Eating in the library or drinking from open containers.
- Leaving personal belongings unattended at any time.
- Entering the library barefoot or without a shirt.
- Having strong, pervasive odor or personal hygiene that unreasonably disturbs others.
- Soliciting for any cause on Library property.
- Using roller skates/blades, skateboards, or jump ropes on Library property.
- Bringing animals into the library, other than service animals or animals permitted by the Library Director (or designee) for special programming purposes, or leaving animals unattended on any part of the Library property.
Anyone violating the regulations of the Reddick Public Library District may be asked to leave the premises. Staff will notify the Police Department if an individual fails to heed staff requests. In case of severe or repeated violations of the Library’s regulations, the Library Director may suspend library privileges for 1 day up to 6 months. Written notification shall be made when possible whenever actions concerning severe or repeated violations occur. An individual wishing to file an appeal shall submit it in writing to the Library Director, who will respond in writing.
